Electro-Acoustic Dubcology IV Such Places, Re-Invent Gallery, Lake Forest, IL July 2012 For this installation, I recorded a brief sound-walk of downtown Lake Forest, including the Metra station, Market Square and Open Lands Park. These recordings offer a brief description of the sonic character of Down Town Lake Forest. Through electro-acoustic process, I have made a version of this experience and installed it at Re-Invent in a Zen-like garden of speakers and electronics. This piece explores the relationship between sound and space, where I create a new space from familiar sounds. http://soundcloud.com/normanlong/electroacoustic-dubcology4
“Invisibility, let me explain, gives one a slightly different sense of time, you’re never quite on the beat. Sometimes you’re ahead and sometimes behind. Instead of the swift and imperceptible flowing of time, you are aware of its nodes, those points where time stands still or from which it leaps ahead. And you slip into the breaks and look around.” — Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison
