Home Knowledge Sound Walk Performance Home Knowledge Spectacular, North Branch Projects, Chicago, IL, March 2012 These are the recordings from the sound walk. From the program: Norman Long a workshop on Silence and Listening. I'd like to make a presentation about how we perceive and define space and place through sound. I will do this by organizing a sound walk of the area of the North Branch projects. We will be experiencing the neighborhood through listening. Our route will take us through the commercial area on Lawrence, The North Branch of the River, Eugene Field Park, Gompers Park and the residential points in between. Many local residents may be familiar with what the neighborhood looks like. I would like for them to focus on how this area sounds, what sounds define this neighborhood and their relationship to this area via sound.
“Invisibility, let me explain, gives one a slightly different sense of time, you’re never quite on the beat. Sometimes you’re ahead and sometimes behind. Instead of the swift and imperceptible flowing of time, you are aware of its nodes, those points where time stands still or from which it leaps ahead. And you slip into the breaks and look around.” — Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison
